Magodi Welcome to Wildlife & Conservation Foundation

Magodi Wildlife & Conservation Foundation was founded by Mr. Marvel Tlhobogano Serome, a lifelong conservation advocate from the Boteti region, with a deep personal commitment to protecting Botswana’s natural heritage.

The Foundation was established in response to increasing threats to wildlife, including habitat loss, climate stress, human-wildlife conflict, and declining environmental awareness among rural communities. MWCF was created to serve as a practical, locally grounded conservation model that combines traditional knowledge, modern science, and inclusive development. read more

Protecting Botswana’s Wildlife. Empowering Communities. Securing the Future.

Founder’s Message

Magodi Wildlife & Conservation Foundation was established out of a lifelong commitment to Botswana’s land, wildlife, and people. Having grown up in the Boteti region, I have witnessed both the abundance of our natural heritage and the increasing pressures facing wildlife and rural communities.

MWCF exists to demonstrate that conservation can and must work for local people while safeguarding ecosystems of global importance. Through rehabilitation of endangered species, education of our youth, scientific collaboration, and ethical partnerships, we aim to build a conservation model that is sustainable, inclusive, and respected nationally and internationally.

I invite partners, patrons, researchers, and friends of conservation to walk this journey with us as we protect today what future generations depend upon.

Why Magodi | Why Boteti

The Boteti–Makgadikgadi ecosystem is one of Botswana’s most important and fragile landscapes. It serves as a critical wildlife migration corridor and supports diverse species uniquely adapted to arid and semi-arid conditions.

Magodi’s location provides:

  • Strategic conservation value within a national wildlife corridor
  • Opportunities for species rehabilitation and reintroduction
  • A living outdoor classroom for research and education
  • Direct community impact in an underserved rural region

Investing in MWCF means protecting an ecosystem of national and global significance.

Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism

MWCF integrates conservation with cultural preservation and low-impact tourism initiatives, including collaboration with the Lekawa Cultural Tourism Project, which revives traditional Bayeyi reed raft heritage while promoting environmental stewardship.

These initiatives support:

  • Cultural identity preservation
  • Responsible tourism experiences
  • Community income diversification

Governance, Accountability & Ethics

Governance Structure

Magodi Wildlife & Conservation Foundation operates under a formal governance framework aligned with Botswana NGO and foundation best practices. The Foundation is overseen by its Founder & Director and guided by advisory partners and patrons with expertise in conservation, education, tourism, and community development.

Accountability & Compliance

  • Operates in alignment with Botswana laws and regulatory requirements
  • Committed to ethical wildlife management and animal welfare standards
  • Maintains transparent financial management and reporting
  • Upholds donor accountability and impact reporting

Advisory & Board Development

As MWCF grows, the Foundation is progressively establishing an independent Board of Advisors to strengthen governance, oversight, and strategic direction.

MWCF is committed to strong governance and ethical management, aligned with Botswana NGO best practices. Financial accountability, clear reporting, and responsible stewardship guide all our operations.

“MWCF is dedicated to rehabilitating endangered wildlife, restoring ecosystems, and fostering community-based conservation in Botswana’s Boteti region.”
